Response to a friend's question that I thought I'd share with all...

Bill is a "cradle Catholic" and we are both baptized, so, no, we didn't have to take any special classes before the wedding.

One priest suggest that I finish the RCIA program first. I was kinda trying to line up our new wedding with our old wedding date. Didn't even come close. (Dec. 19) Father Joe wanted to get it overwith for Bill's sake. Bill wasn't supposed to be partaking of the Sacraments during the after annulment/before marriage stuff.

We met with Father Joe a couple of times. Since the first wedding wasn't in the Catholic Church, it hasn't been recognized as a Sacramental union befor God (as far as the Catholic interpretation goes). Can't really change the date of the civil marriage, so as far as the State goes, we were married in December. *whew*

Anyhow, according to Father Joe, September 9, 2008 IS our new WEDDING DATE. This was not a "renewal" of vows. This was a whole new unity. Well...since we didn't have "traditional" vows at our "first" wedding, and since some of the vows were...uh..."broken"...I decided that I didn't have a problem with it.
The new vows included stuff about raising kids in the Church. I know the previous set said nothing of the sort. I thought that was pretty nice.

Truthfully, I'm not sure what all we said. We read it out of the little read book at the time...I gotta get hold of that book.

Father Joe basically went over everything when we met with him a week before the wedding. We even had 5-minute permarital counseling. ;-) He said that he could tell we were on the same page and didn't see the need.

Well, I've rambled enough. Hope you are doing well! JKL
